The bugle is a small brass instrument that is basically a natural horn, because it has no valves or keys. One might wonder how the pitch is altered without any keys or valves; the pitch can be altered by controlling the air that the musician is blowing into the horn through closed lips. Blowing through closed lips is what creates the vibrations that make the sound. Of course, even with the ability to alter pitch manually without keys or valves, the instrument is fairly limited to a smaller range of notes it can make; which appears to be five notes at most.

The bugle is a fairly simple instrument that was originally developed from instruments like the horn. The brass bugle has not changed much and still appears more or less the same today as it did when the first brass bugles were first created, though they have altered in appearance quite a bit from the original horns that came before the brass bugle.

It would appear that it was and is most often used by the military in marching bands or signal calls that need to be made. Though it has been used in other types of music, it does not appear to be a brass instrument that is used as often as others. Its limited range, tone and pitch is very commanding and bold; this could be the reason why it is more popular in the military and marching bands.

It may not be the first instrument that a new musician will choose to learn how to play. The bugle is simple in construction, and it only requires a person to control the amount of air that they blow into the instrument, but it does take some time and practice to be able to get the control they need. Still, it might not be an attractive instrument to lean how to play by many, but then it also depends on why they are learning to play the instrument, such as whether they are in a band and are limited to what instruments they can play.

School bands would be another way for young people to be exposed to the chance to play the bugle. The instrument is not overly expensive and the music is not too expensive either, so it is yet another brass instrument that can be an attractive choice for school bands to include in their class. It is also an instrument that can be relatively easy for people to find in used instrument stores, where the cost is a fraction of what it would be when new.

The bugle is also another brass instrument that has been known to be donated to schools by people who no longer have a use for their bugles, but who also want to show their support for exposing young people to music. Some people do enjoy playing this particular instrument; some even find it a little challenging, especially if it is the first instrument they have ever learned how to play.

Fender Standard Stratocaster Guitar 3-Ply Back Plate White

Guitar Replacement Backplate. Made by Fender.

Fender offers an assortment of Stratocaster back plates for all of your replacement needs.

This back plate is 3-Ply and comes in a white finish.

An ukulele is a fantastic instrument to use on a birthday celebration! Today you will learn the ukulele chords to a famous song!

We will first take a look at the lyrics:

Happy Birthday To You

Happy Birthday To You

Happy Birthday Dear ...

Happy Birthday To You

The names of the chords we play presupposes that your ukulele is tuned in C. This means that your first string is an A.

Now you will learn the ukulele chord C-major:

C: 0/4 0/3 0/2 3/1

This ukulele tab notation will help you to find which frets and strings to use on your ukulele.

The first number tells you which fret to press down. The number after the slash indicate the string.

0/4 means that you play the open fourth string on your ukulele. Yes, an open string is a string we don't press down.

3/1 means that you press down the third fret on the first string.

You have to learn one more chord in order to play the first line of lyrics. It will be G7:

G7: 0/4 2/3 1/2 2/1

Time to try the ukulele chords for the first line. I will put the chord names in front of the words where you change chords:

Happy (C)Birthday To (G7)You

The next line has the same lyrics but a different chord combination.

Happy (G7)Birthday To (C)You

You will need to know one more ukulele chord. That is F:

F: 2/4 0/3 1/2 0/1

Time for the third line. We will put a name in the lyrics:

Happy (C)Birthday Dear (F)Martha

Now it's time for you to complete this song. The last line:

Happy (C)Birthday (G7)To (C)You

You can of course play the song in other keys on your ukulele. I will just give you one more key to play you song in.

I will make a little conversion table for you to use in order to play the song in D-major. First you will get the chords in D-major:

D: 2/4 2/3 2/2 0/1

You will also use the chord A7:

A7: 0/4 1/3 0/2 0/1

and finally G-major:

G: 0/4 2/3 3/2 2/1

In order to be able to play Happy Birthday To You in the key of D you have to replace the chords in the following way:

C becomes D

G7 becomes A7

F becomes G

This change of key will give you a chance to sing in a slightly higher pitch. Of course there are more keys that you can use. We have different key preferences because of our personal singing abilities but these keys are good for an untrained voice at least.

Now you can play the ukulele chords to the song Happy Birthday To You in two keys!

There will be plenty of opportunities for you to play this song. Learn it by heart one line at a time and you will be able to play the song wherever there is an ukulele.

The Fender Stratocaster Handbook: How To Buy, Maintain, Set Up, Troubleshoot, and Modify Your Strat

This hands-on, how-to manual for the Strat takes the mystery out of maintaining and modifying what is really a relatively simple instrument (two boards, some wires, some pickups). Clear text and colorful illustrations take readers through the basics of selecting and buying Strats; maintenance and repairs such as tuning, setting intonation, tremolo alignment, fret repairs, bridge and nut adjustments, electrics troubleshooting; spur-of-the-moment stageside fixes; and some basic performance enhancements like adding “hot rod” Fender and aftermarket pickups, locking-tremolo nuts, and more.

Customer Review: great for saving money
I set up the playing action on the guitar necks on 5 guitars in a row, right after first studying 1 page in this book for about 2 minutes, if you want to adjust-lower the string action on a guitar, this book explains it very easily, each guitar took about 30 seconds, it's so easy!
Customer Review: Mr. know How
This handbook is really good, for me it gives me almost everything I needed or I wanted to know about the legendary Stratocaster guitar, I personally recommend it to anyone who is interested to know everything about Strats and more important to who wants a hands-on reference to fully understand and maintain their guitar........ I really love improvisations that go nowhere. Improvisations where there is no goal just an impulse to follow feelings in the current moment.

In fact, some have described this kind of music as self-indulgent - a kind of musical fantasy world where the focus is more on the performer than the listener.

Of course, this isn't the case at all. You see, most of us are used to having our music wrapped up in nice neat little packages. We aren't used to actually listening to music. We expect an "emotional experience" right away. And it better happen in 3-4 minutes or else.

Take Japanese Shakahuachi music for example. For those of you who don't know, the shakahuachi is a Japanese flute. It's beautiful sound is appreciated by many in the East.

I have a few CDs of this music and everytime I listen to them I hear something new. It's as if each time the CD is played I hear it for the first time. It never gets old. Why? Because of the absence of musical form!

There is not much for the mind to grasp or hold onto. Repetition of musical phrases is almost non existent. Instead, we get music without goals!

If there is a goal at all, it's that the person performing the music remains in the present while playing. What we hear is the "state of mind" of the performer at the exact time the recording is made.

In one of my own piano pieces "Cirrus," (listen to it at http://www.quiescencemusic.com) I do the same thing. And everytime I listen to it, it seems that it's somehow changed. Yet the music always remains fresh and pliant - waiting to be discovered again and again.

Having said all of this, I have nothing against musical form and the works that come from it. I just think the "other" kind of music is just as valid and important

If you are a parent, you naturally do want your children to be all that they can be ... With that in mind, you should seriously consider getting your children involved in a number of different activities. In this regard, you need to consider enrolling your children in guitar lessons. There are many benefits to enrolling your children in guitar lessons at an early age. The benefits of early learning when it comes to guitar lessons are explored for your consideration in this article.

One of the most basic benefits that can be realized by providing your children a chance to take guitar lessons early in life is the fact that they will be able to start the process of learning this instrument at a point in time when it will be easier for them to learn. Research has demonstrated that children that take instrument lessons earlier in life normally are able to master that instrument more quickly and more effectively.

Another of the basic benefits that can be realized by exposing your children to guitar lessons early in life is that they will be able to take part in an activity that they enjoy. The fact is that children you are exposed to instruments early in life come to enjoy the whole process of learning to play. On the other hand, if you wait until children are older and have established alternate routines (which not always be particularly healthy), these kids may not find pleasure in guitar lessons on the same lesson. In other words, they may find guitar lessons to be a chore and complain about having to participate in them.

Yet another of the benefits associated with guitar lessons is the fact that you will be able to expand the horizons of your kids by exposing them to guitar lessons. You want your children to have a wide range of experiences in life. Your children will be best served by being exposed to different things as early in life as is reasonable and possible. This includes exposing your children to the arts and to music, including possibly guitar lessons.

You also need to keep in mind that if you do not expose your children to guitar lessons at an earlier age, your children may not have that option ever again in the future. The fact is that many schools today have cut out many music lessons and classes. There budgets simply do not allow for music lessons and classes. Therefore, if you want your children to be exposed to things like guitar lessons, you will need to take the lead on your own to get your kids so involved.

Another benefit that your children can enjoy by getting involved with guitar lessons is that these lessons will allow your kids an expanded chance at socialization. Not only will your children be able to interact with the instructor but your children will also be able to interact with other students as well. This type of socialization is crucial to the emotional and psychological development of your child. You will see a change in your child in this regard through guitar lessons in no time at all.

Finally, by getting your children involved in guitar lessons, your children may also have the chance to perform. This will open up another set of interesting doors for your kids. Performing will enhance your children's sense of self, self esteem and so forth. On some level there is nothing that builds a child's self confidence as does performing an instrument that a child has mastered through lessons and practice.

Developed as an amalgamation of various musical forms, country music has a huge fan following across the globe. Country music enthusiasts are divided loosely into two sects. The first contains those people who listen to this melodious form for entertainment. The second and the more serious are those who follow country music as a form of art.

Country music lyrics have played a huge part in bringing the music to its present successful stage. The simple and flowing words of country music describe the day-to-day lives of the average American. Not every body identifies with Brad Pitt or Madonna, but you can empathize with the simple characters described in country music. An average working class American citizen relates to the beautiful depiction of relationships, touching loneliness or poverty.

Earlier commercial forms of country music copied ballad or folk music. The lyrics depicted the lives of Americans in earlier days, using a fiddler to deliver the message. A good example of this was fiddling John Carsons 1924 hit "Little Old Log Cabin in the Lane."

Country music lyrics beautifully portrayed the romantic version of a vast span of lonesome prairies. People loved the image of a singing cowboy galloping on a steed singing and working hard on a sunny day. Singers like Gene Autry and Roy Rogers boosted the image of country music tremendously by including beautiful lyrics in their songs.

The lyrics in country music are often repeated as a catchy melodious phrase by a chorus, and composers usually write tunes that are 150 words or less.

If you are a fan of just about any kind of music, you've heard a Fender Strat. This book covers all the details of one of the music world's most iconic images, the Fender Stratocaster. This is another book that I can't seem to put down. This book will make you want to run out and buy a Strat even if you can't play. This is a must-have book if you are a collector, musician, or a fan of Strat-playing musicians.
Customer Review: Great book. Great fun!
This is a very well researched and well written book. All of Tom Wheeler's guitar and amp books are terrific. I also have the companion Fender Amp book which is a "must have" for enthusiasts and collectors.

Named after their hometown, the soft rock outfit, Boston has a loyal core of fans. Boston the band was in its prime during the 1970s and 1980s but they have never really gone away. They are a particular favorite with radio DJs and their appeal cuts across the generations. The most famous song associated with them is probably More Than a Feeling.

As with most groups that have been around for a long time, there have been several changes to the line up. The only remaining original member is Tom Scholz and he founded the band Boston, plays on guitar and writes most of the music. Current members also include Gary Pihl on guitar, Jeff Neal on drums and Kimberley Dahme on bass. Dahme is the first female member of the line up. Scholz is also well known for his innovation in the recording studio and has designed his own recording and sound equipment. He is a perfectionist in the studio and strive to reproduce the best sound possible on stage.

The group has a habit of making platinum albums, including the debut from 1976. Called Boston, the album sold more copies than any other debuts in American history. The follow up, two years later, Don't Look Back, also reached platinum sales, as did the next two. Third Stage was released in 1986 and Walk On in 1994. A Greatest Hits release was another bestseller in 1997. In addition to the old hits, it contained three new songs. The latest album from Boston the band is Corporate America, which came out in 2002.

The single, More Than a Feeling, from the debut album, reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was promoted with a video of the group in concert. The song has been covered several times including a version by boy band *NSYNC. "Weird Al'' Yankovic has also done a parody of the song. It is featured on the PlayStation game, Guitar Hero.

There was a very emotional reunion for Boston the band in 2007 when Tom Scholz organized a tribute concert to former vocalist with the group, the late Brad Delp. Both current and past members of the band came together to celebrate Delp's life, playing their classic hit records. The concert, at Boston's Bank of America Pavilion, was a great success. Despite the circumstances, it was an uplifting affair for the band and their fans as they remembered the vast contribution that Delp had made to the band's success.

How do you find profitable keywords? Lets explore the most effective techniques.

1. Competitors Source Code

2. Think Like A Potential Customer

3. Keyword Tools

4. Places

5. Spelling Mistakes

1.) Competitors Source Code:

Look at your competitors source code and check their Meta tags. Internet Explorer & Opera: Go to their website and then click View on the menu bar and select Source. Netscape Navigator & Fire Fox: Click View on the menu bar and select Page Source. Look at the tag that looks like this :

<meta name="Keywords" content="web design tutorials, view source code, view source in opera, web design tutorial video" />

All of the words in quotation and separated by commas are keywords. This method will give you an idea which keywords are profitable for your competitors.

2.) Think Like a Potential Customer:

Try to think of combinations of words that web surfers might search for your product with. If you were selling guitars you might use words like this:

guitar, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, fender stratocaster, fender guitar, affordable guitar, cheap guitar, classic guitar

There are probably hundreds or thousands of combinations you can come up with. Dont forget to use both general keywords like guitar and specific keywords like fender stratocaster. Usually general keywords will bring you more visitors but specific keywords will convert into sales at a higher rate.

3.) Keyword Tools:

There are great free keyword tools available at YSM (Overture), and Google. Word Tracker is a great keyword tool if you have a little money. You can start an account with them and pay for a day, a week, a month or a year. There is a new keyword tool called Keyword Elite that you can buy. I have never personally used Keyword Elite but a lot of internet marketers are raving about it. These keyword tools will find you hundreds or even thousands of keyword combinations, some of which you wouldnt think of.

4.) Places:

For some products or services you might consider using a name of a town, city, state, province, or even the country in the keyword. If you were selling insurance for example you could use this technique provided you actually serviced the area in your keyword phrase.

Example:

florida insurance, insurance florida, ny insurance, insurance ny, us insurance, insurance us, ontario insurance, canadian insurance

5.) Spelling Mistakes:

Hundreds of millions of searches are being performed on the net everyday and nobody is perfect. Spelling mistakes can get you targeted traffic at a fraction of the cost of the normal search term in the pay per click engines. They can also be less competitive as not all marketers are capitalizing on this technique. However, there are a growing number of marketers using this strategy now so it isnt as effective as it used to be.

Example:

gitar, chep guitar, clasic guitar, affordible guitars, gitars, fender strat, gibsin guitar, electic guitar

There are more techniques and tools out there but this should give you a good start and hopefully help you on your way to a successful campaign.

Fender '57 Stratocaster 8 Hole Pickguard - White Pearl

Guitar Replacement Pickguard. Made by Fender.

One of the really nice things about Fender instruments is that you can change the look of your instrument with relative ease.

One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is to replace the pickguard! Fender offers a variety of pickguards with different pickup configurations and materials to help you add a personal touch to your favorite Fender instrument.

4-Ply, 8 Hole Stratocaster Pickguard for 3 single coil pickups

Fits:

  • '57 American Vintage, SRV and Eric Clapton Stratocasters (USA)
  • '50s Stratocaster (Mexico)

It is a curious paradox of the music industry: guitarists, particularly rock guitarists, are often thought of as trendsetters when it comes to fashion and culture; but when it comes to their instruments, they are notoriously conservative. Innovations such as active electronics, guitar synthesizers and Steinbergers intrepid steps into the field of headless instruments in the 80s have failed to make much of a dent in the market. Gibson and Fender continue to dominate the electric guitar market much as they did in the 1950s and 60s. Even with the entry of new competitors into the market over the years such as Ibanez, Paul Reed Smith and Charvel/Jackson, the electric guitar has remained essentially unchanged with one to three magnetic pickups and a mess of wires connecting them to the controls. But things may be about to change!

In the last couple of years a few innovations have come along that have totally turned conventional wisdom or at least conventional guitar electronics on its head. The first is the nylon string solid body electric guitar. I first saw one of these in the hands of metal ace Yngwie Malmsteen and was blown away by the sound. For any artist who is trying to incorporate elements of classical guitar in his or her repertoire, this instrument provides the mellow classical tone of a nylon stringed guitar with the comfortable feel and action of a traditional solid body axe. This has been made possible through the tremendous advances made in recent years in the field of Piezo pickup technology. Without going into too much technical detail, the Piezo differs from a traditional magnetic pickup in that the Piezo element vibrates with the string, sending an electrical signal of that vibration to a preamp within the guitar for processing, rather than capturing an electromagnetic representation of that vibration which can then be sent directly to an amplifier, or to an onboard preamp if further shaping of the signal is desired. The Piezo eliminates the need for steel strings, which would otherwise interact with the magnetic pickup, and also produces more satisfactory results for players with a lighter fingerstyle technique. Lest you think this is just another passing fancy, Parker has produced a nylon string version of their famous Fly model and another up-and-comer, Sadowski Guitars, is producing a Telecaster style model employing the same technology.

Another intriguing development is in the area of computer-guitar interface. This has been long time coming, and if you consider the explosion in the popularity of digital recording with Pro Tools and similar software, its surprising it took as long as it did. Far and away, the leader in this field is Line 6s Variax model. Now, I will be the first person to admit that I know just enough about computer technology to be dangerous, but Ill try to tell you what I know from what Ive read and from friends and acquaintances who have played the Variax. I should also state that I am in no way affiliated with Line 6 or any of their subsidiaries or partners. The Variax is, according to the Line 6 brochure a digital modeling guitar that allows the musician to switch between a huge array of potential sounds on one instrument. The sounds of a 12-string acoustic, Fender Stratocaster style single coils, Les Paul humbuckers, banjo, chimes and dozens of others are all available at the flick of a switch. The best part about it is that all of these tonal variations are available completely hum free. For the working musician, this means not having to lug around five to seven separate guitars to provide him with the all of the sounds he requires. The true test, however, is hearing one of these fine instruments in action, so if youd like to check one out, a list of authorized dealers is available from the Line 6 website. At an MSRP of around $1000 for the mid-line Variax 600 its also available in the 300 and 700 its not cheap, but for the professional or amateur with money to burn, it may be a worthwhile investment.

There is so much more to be developed in the near future with the improvements in computer technology and miniaturization. Whole racks of effects can now be had in a box the size of a cigarette packet. This is certainly a boon for the musician in terms of both price and the effort necessary to move the equipment. I foresee a day when an entire guitarist rig, with the exception of the instrument itself will be contained within the body of the guitar itself. And while that may not be a comfort to the guitarist who finds himself at home amongst his racks of effects processors, time waits for no man, and he will eventually find himself at a crossroads in musical instrument development, much as those men did back in 1930s and 40s when the acoustic guitar was forced to make way for the first electric guitars.

Stratocaster Greats: Playing in the Style of Fender

Customer Review: History of the Fender Guitar
This is not really an instructinal DVD it is more of a history lesson about the Fender Stratocaster Guitar and its rise from the early 50's to today. Tom Kolb explains such mundane things as the Bridge section of the guitar and control knobs, tremelo,pickup's...ect.But the highlite is when he plays in different styles such as Jeff beck, Eric Clapton,Ritche Blackmore, and other great Strat players.Fun to watch if you are a huge Strat fan like me... but may bore others who were hopping to glean some riff's off of this DVD. After watching this dvd you do realize just how important the Strat has been to Rock and music in general. Its the only true example i can think of where they got something right the first time! the body and structure of the Srtat has not changed in 60 years....thats beacause it was perfect to begin with.

I've played keyboard for over 25 years. I've now decided to start playing guitar and purchased this video. No doubt that Tom Kolb knows how to play a guitar. If I didn't have any previous musical knowledge I would have been completely lost watching this DVD. What it shows to you is a bunch of information about various styles of various guitar players. That's what it is suppose to do right? Well what is shown to you is a guy playing his guitar really fast and talks about nothing on how to apply techniques and use them. Then you are referred to look at a cheezy photocopied handbook that is suppose to explain everything. Wrong! Every "technique" that is shown... if you can pick it out during his fast playing... would already be known by an experienced player. Beginner.... forget it, you won't see anything that will help you. I could go on for hours on how useless this video is. But I'll keep it short. Spend your money on something else.

Between 1817 and 1823, Ludwig van Beethoven composed Symphony No.9 in D Minor, Opus 125 "Choral." Nestled in the fourth movement of this classical masterpiece is 'Ode to Joy.' It's a composition of exquisite beauty, which to this day continues to give pleasure to listeners of fine music.

Beethoven finalized this masterwork of symphonic construction in 1824. The Ninth Symphony was the last complete symphony he composed.

The Ode to Joy section of the music originates from a work by Friedrich von Schiller. This German poet, playwright, and historian wrote a poem entitled 'Ode to Happiness' in 1785. Beethoven, inspired by this poem, used it as the basis for Ode to Joy as the finale of his great symphony.

Beethoven's attraction to Schiller's poem began in his more youthful days. When he was twenty-two, he had a desire to put music to the poem. In fact, by 1811, some of the text of Ode to Happiness found its way into the sketches for Beethoven's seventh and eighth symphonies.

Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany in 1770. He was the second-oldest child of Johann van Beethoven, a man of musical background himself. Johann was a court musician and tenor in Bonn's Electoral court. Ludwig followed into music and gave his first piano performance in public at the tender age of eight.

For a short period, Franz Joseph Haydn taught Beethoven. The young Beethoven even had the opportunity to play for Mozart. By 1795 Beethoven's reputation as an excellent pianist was solid. His talents as an improviser were impressive, and he had the gift of composing 'off-the-cuff' with flair.

Beethoven began to notice signs of hearing loss around 1798. In 1801, he wrote a letter to his friend Karl Ameda that stated:

"My greatest faculty, my hearing, is greatly deteriorated."

When his Ninth Symphony premiered on May 7, 1824, he could not hear its performance. This first public performance took place in Vienna's Karntnertorm Theater. Of necessity, Beethoven's deafness required another conductor to direct the symphony orchestra. Beethoven did stand next to this conductor during the performance in order to give tempo directions.

When the performance ended, and the audience erupted with emotion and applause, Beethoven didn't notice. He stood with his back to the audience, facing the orchestra, still regulating tempo. Not until Fraulein Unger, a contralto, had him turn around did Beethoven witness the reception to his masterpiece.

The symphony as a whole is the work of a musical genius who labored over every facet of it. The famous Ode to Joy choral melody involved nose-to-the-grindstone work by Beethoven. It developed over many years draft by draft until he deemed it right. Although written for solo voice and chorus, Beethoven did consider an instrumental only version of the melody.

Through the years, the Ode to Joy has been a source of inspiration to peoples and cultures around the world. During China's Cultural Revolution, it received some distinction as a work that speaks of progressive class struggle.

It was the Ode to Joy that provided musical inspiration in Europe in 1989. That year, after the Berlin Wall came crumbling down, Leonard Bernstein performed the piece in Berlin. It was renamed Ode to Freedom, the word 'freedom' replacing the word 'joy' in the text. This beautiful melody filled the air to celebrate the end of the dividing wall between East and West Germany.

Today the music of Ode to Joy is the official anthem of the European Union. Its German lyrics, however, are not, out of deference to the many languages that make up the Union.

Ode to Joy remains a piece of pure art. It continues to give hope, inspiration, and plain old musical joy to peoples all over the world.

Stevie Ray Vaughan hailed from Dallas Texas, and his name is synonymous with fender electric guitars. Stevie predominantly played a late fifties or early sixties version of the Strat (opinion is divided on its exact date), but there is no doubting that it was a Fender Stratocaster (Strat) guitar. Stevie seemed to favour this guitar over most others, and the sound is distinctly Fender, and Strat in particular, in quality.

The sound produced by Stevie Ray is almost classic Fender. The Strat is very distinctive, and adds a beautiful tone, especially to Stevie Ray's blues playing. There is a lot of recorded music by Stevie Ray, and all of it is great to hear. I certainly recommend that you seek some out and enjoy the Texas blues at its very best.

Stevie's background was steeped in the blues, so it is no surprise that his recordings feature many blues cuts. The video of Stevies' performance of Texas Flood is a great example of his feel for the blues. Stevie didn't stop with the blues though, and he used his Fender Guitar to great effect on many of his own compositions, as well as blues classics. He played a kind of shuffle exquisitely, as demonstrated on brilliant tunes such as 'Pride and Joy' and 'Cold Shot'. SRV also covered many rock classics, and could do anything song he turned his attention to justice.

I had the great privilege of seeing Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble at the Hammersmith Odeon (it's now called something else I think) in London, in the late 1980's. Apart from the pleasure of seeing SRV play, the event was doubly memorable for me because Eric Clapton came in, accompanied by Ringo Starr and other halves, and sat down in front of me! How cool was that.

Stevie wrapped his Fender around all his classic cuts, including some specialty rocks songs that he covered, in honour of his peers. I am thinking here of Jimi Hendrix, for whom SRV covered Little Wing and Voodoo Chile. And Stevie's renditions of these songs were spectacular. However, remembering Eric Clapton, reminded me of another SRV cover, which I recall EC getting very animated about, And that was a version of Stevie Wonder's classic song 'Superstition', played with all the panache you would expect from a super showman like Stevie Ray Vaughan. And if Eric Clapton loved it, who am I to argue?

I am very grateful to the likes of Google's You Tube that allows us to see late great artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan plying their trade. Seeing these great performers, many on stage where they were in their element. is a chance to see great workmen use their tools of trade, which in Stevie Ray's case, was a Fender Electric Guitar!

Fender electric guitars rock! Stevie Ray Vaughan played them, so could you! Great music, great guitars, great time!

There are many factors to consider when choosing an electric guitar and each factor will impact your choice of guitars available for you to buy in the marketplace.

Perhaps one of the first things to consider is whether you are looking for a famous brand, such as a fender electric guitar, an Ibanez electric guitar, a Gibson electric guitar or you may not have a preference regarding the brand of guitar that you are looking to purchase.

You then need to consider whether or not you want an acoustic electric guitar. Once you've deciphered that, even if you do choose a specific guitar maker, the following list of factors will need to be considered.

Body style

There are three basic body styles of electric guitars - solid body, semi hollow/semi solid and hollow body.

Guitar Body Shape

There are various different guitar shapes to choose from and you should try a few different ones for comfort and feel before making a decision when buying your electric guitar. Shapes available include the Strat shape designed by Fender, the telecaster shape, again designed by Fender, and also the Les Paul and SG shape designed by Gibson guitars.

The Fender strat and Telecaster shape guitars are favoured by famous guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bonnie Raitt. Guitar heroes such as Joe Perry and Slash prefer the Gibson Les Paul shape of guitar. Guitar shape does not have a direct effect on sound when played.

Neck

The style and type of neck for your guitar is dependent upon your hand size and what is most comfortable for you to play with. There are a variety of shapes including wide, thin and C-shaped.

Scale length

The scale length impacts the tone quality of the notes and the string tension at a particular pitch. The scale length is determined by the distance between the bridge saddle and the nut. There are most often two common scale lengths to choose from - the Gibson scale and the Fender scale. There is a third scale as well, which is used by Paul Reed Smith as well as others, which produce a different sound from the two most common scale lengths.

Intonation

Intonation is the term used to describe if the notes are in tune as you move up the neck of your guitar. Intonation can be affected by different factors such as playing style. Pressing harder on the strings can create a bow and this in time can affect guitar intonation.

Set neck/Bolt on neck

The choice between these two may leave you with less choices of the instrument you choose - Stratocaster electric guitars are bolt on necks, while the Gibson Les Paul is a set neck.

Number of frets

Most electric guitars have 22 frets, however you may choose a 24 fret as well that will give you another octave.

Finish

Even if you are looking for a pink electric guitar, the finish on the guitar doesn't impact the sound as it does with acoustic guitars.

Bridge

The choice between tremolo bridge and stop tail bridge.

Pickups

Most electric guitars have two pick ups. A 3-position switch allows you to choose between these pick ups, while others have a 5-position switch.

Customer Review: Why...?
So if a PS3 40GB is only $399 and a Rockband package is $170... by my calculations that comes to $569 plus tax. Why would anyone pay $649 for this? Aren't bundles supposed to save you money, not cost you more...?
Customer Review: What a rip off!!
Why would anyone buy this bundle?? These two items retail for $600, don't spend over $800 to get them together. The only reason this even got one star is because it wouldn't let me leave it at none.

Back in the days of what was the explosive Woodstock music scene of Bristol and the West Country, a vocalist emerged from the new genre, known as indie, in the shape Gerard Langley. Hardly, as you would first think, a name to be reckoned with in the glitzy world of music showbiz, but a fairly stable name even so. Along with his brother, who took up the position of drummer, they soon gathered together a collection of some of the most talented and composed musicians in the city area. In fact, they were, as they called themselves, The Blue Aeroplanes, known to have the biggest musician - participation in, probably, modern music history.

Although their commercial contribution to the world of music looks vaguely more successful that a Pop Idol winner, their gritty and uniquely timed anthems had far from been on the same level. Langley, the headman was known, in the fast growing indie scene for his deep, menacing and half spoken vocals and other than supporting a then, little known U.S band called, R.E.M, although the band had collaborated with Michelle Shocked on one track.

It would appear that there seems to be a silent, yet, growing interest in this distant indie band who, tragically, graced only the bottom half of the Top 75 at any given time. It perhaps should be more the question of why didnt they ever make the grade? Well, that could be answered as simply as bad timing. Due to their haunting renditions of a familiar Smiths sound, they would have been noted as to be almost a decade out of date. I do believe that if they had been around a lot earlier, then their level of success would have vastly improved. That comatose style of backing vocal, at the time of, Jacket Hangs was the tones of Rodney Allen, Alex Lee, John Langley and Andy McCreeth, was more along the lines of The Waterboys, which, is certainly no bad thing, but on listening back to Blue Aeroplanes tunes today, we find ourselves puzzled as to why they werent better recognised. What we dont perhaps remember, is how much the talent odds were stacked against them. With a sound that was unique and so in tune with the outside world, it was also the backdrop of every other band at the time. Not to mention the members list grew to around thirty...

It is also arguable that there were far less talented bands around the time of the mid Eighties to the early Nineties, who, simply didnt deserve to achieve the success that they did. Who really could have forgotten that rhythmic perfect of John Langleys drum backing and that non melodic, jangle effect on guitars from Lee and Allen? They fused together as a band and never failed to let their fan base down. They might have been predictable in their approach to their own expression of indie music, but at least that meant never having to cringe ferociously at surprising and embarrassing diversions.

Their first notably successful album, Bop Art, in April 1984, may have sounded more like a Gene Vincent take on an old Transvision Vamp album, but it was surprisingly fresh enough to create a lasting appeal on certain listeners who, it would seem, became the backbone of the circle of devoted fans today. Although, since their early days, when their influences swayed heavily towards Elvis Costello and The Velvet Underground, they have somehow taken what they had learnt from these artists and actually drawn up, by themselves, a sound that, truly, came from themselves. We wonder how it came to be that they had come and gone from so many record labels. Their career path has certainly trodden a steady route through all the alternative labels of that time. Finally, standing firm behind the legendary label that brought us Icicle Works and Gene Loves Jezebel - Beggars Banquet, they had driven the idea through following bands, that it was the way that stable, tight knitted bands worked to get the maximum coverage.

Albums followed plus a couple of singles that failed to make any lasting notability with the regular record purchaser. Tolerance in 1986 and Spitting Out Miracles in 1986, after which, they enjoyed little in the way of pleasing positions from a string of EPs and one or two singles that followed.

They did, however, change their attitude through this far from joyful period in their early career. Shifting from Art Rock and layered pieces to dirty, simple guitar rhythms and slapping drums, their move towards the indie scene seemed sensible and optimistic. Two singles followed through another label, Chrysalis, Jacket Hangs, and ..And Stones, first in February and second in May 1990. Both failed to cut into the Top 70. Albums trailed accordingly in the shape of Swagger, (1990), Beatsongs, (1991) and Life Model, (1994). The middle of these, Beatsongs, graced the Top 35, but failed to hang around longer than three weeks. They had, already, toured with R.E.M in 1989 by this time, who, were enjoying critical acclaim with their politically observed, Green, the year before.

They had achieved as much as they could in those early times. They appeared in such audience participating venues such as the Town And Country Club in Kentish Town, North London; a venue known for the closeness felt through band and crowd. It was a favourite for indie and up and coming bands. Regulars there had been Hard Rain, Then Jericho, Three And A Half Minutes, not to mention, unknown Scottish smilies, Wet Wet Wet. Some, who got to see the B.As always commented on their live performances, noting them as born gig masters. After all, not all bands could boast their own Polish dancer in the shape of Wojtek Dmochowski.

It has undoubtedly crossed the minds of some of you when we say we must still remark on the history of The Blue Aeroplanes when they seemed to have achieved so little. One is for sure, they have remained true to themselves - never faltering in any shape or form, always pleasing to the eye and enjoyable to listen to. They take you back in time to a place in music history where bands were made up of young people who actually played instruments. Any band of that time, composed, rehearsed and performed over and over again to get it right. They worked hard, sweated and were devoted to their craft. Unlike today when a band is only made up of people who can just about sing and who couldnt compose a tune and lyric if their lives depended on it. This, I think it why, we should still celebrate bands like The Blue Aeroplanes for their determination and continuous contribution to British music. Whether it was experimental with different musicians and arrangements of sounds laced together with synths and percussions or taking the dive into all that was the bitter, edginess of the birth of indie, they have gathered up the growing trends into their arms and come with their own style of sound. They came back with gusto in 2000 with the album, Cavaliers/Roundheads, and now, just this year, 2006, we see the release of a long awaited, two CD set of a remaster of the 1990 album, Swagger, probably their most rewarding and well received album of the Nineties. This re working contains 14 bonus tracks and goes, unmistakeably as, Swagger Deluxe. The B.As are back, still standing strong and still eagerly eclipsing new sounds with traditional B.A rhythms and techniques.

We feel as if we know them know, but exactly where, when, how and why the band formed originally and who gelled with who is not entirely known. Their initial birth seems to be a mystery, and perhaps only known by Bristol residents and those who knew them, so it is with this, that they remain intriguing and their records, desirable. These ordinary student, type guys, who are now in their forties, still capture a moment in time when music was still exciting and new; when records were still bought in Woolies on vinyl and singles were only 45s for 45 pence. As far as The Blue Aeroplanes themselves go, all we know is that in Bristol and also in certain places of the Globe, this band still take a secret pride of place in the musical Hall of Fame.
